Item description

Gli Abiti armchair by Paolo Nava for B&B Italia with yellow "evening" upholstery by Gianfranco Ferré, 1980s. Born from the encounter between fashion and design, Gli Abiti armchair is the project launched by Nava for B&B in collaboration with Ferré. The idea launched by Nava is that an armchair or sofa can transform over the course of the year, precisely changing clothes as the seasons and situations change, while maintaining an elegant style without excess such as Ferré's. The decisive aspect in this piece is therefore given by the "dressing" of the seat, which has three covers: winter, summer, evening. In this version, the armchair's metal and cold-foamed polyurethane frame carries the removable cover chosen by Ferré for evening, namely a yellow quilted satin with a damier-stitched velvet border with a drop of trailing fabric; the fabric is presented in its original packaging. Paolo Nava was born in Seregno in 1943, graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Milan Polytechnic, and also attended the Advanced Course in Industrial Design in Florence, graduating in 1966. In 1972 he founded the Citterio - Nava studio with Antonio Citterio, and since 1982 he has continued independently as a designer, collaborating with B&B Italia, Artvis, Flexform, Snaidero, Boffi, Calobbia, Xilitalia, Tonon, Poliform, Arflex and many other Italian and foreign brands. A fundamental aspect of his work is three-dimensional verification through the laboratory model and direct experimentation with materials. In his projects Nava is interested in the possible dialogue between his own poetic vision and concrete industrial and production needs, using new concepts, technologies and materials, maintaining a different conceptual approach to living space to achieve a profound transformation of use. He performs as a lecturer and speaker in many countries. He has received prestigious international design awards throughout his activity. Gianfranco Ferré was born in Legnano, Italy, on August 15, 1944, and enrolled in the Faculty of Architecture at the Milan Polytechnic, where he graduated in 1969, discussing a thesis on "Methodology of the approach to composition," supervisor Arch. Franco Albini. In 1973 he embarked on the first of his many trips to India, where he took inspiration and learned artisan tailoring techniques. From 1974 he launched his first collections and fashion shows; instead, it was in May 1978 that he founded the company "Gianfranco Ferré," based first in Via San Damiano and then in Via della Spiga. In the 1980s, he taught at the "Domus Academy," a post-graduate school of Design, Design management and Fashion Design where, until 1989, he directed the course "Dress Design." From May 1989 to 1996 Ferré was appointed Artistic Director of the Maison Dior. In 2002 the Gianfranco Ferré Company was acquired by Tonino Perna's IT Holding and Ferré became its Artistic Director. In March 2007 he is appointed President of the Brera Academy of Fine Arts; a few months later he passes away following a cerebral hemorrhage.
