Item description

Original and iconic molded glass flower holder bowl. The round perforated glass element for placing the flowers is removable, so the object can also be used as a bowl or ashtray. Its shape is simple and decisive, expertly proportioned, the result of intelligent aesthetic reflection. To obtain the beautiful yellow color, a mixture of sulfur and cadmium sulfide was added during the melting of the glass. The bowl, in Art Deco style, was produced in France between 1930 and 1935 by Pierre D'Avesn, an artist who in that period worked at the Daum glassworks, where he developed an innovative molded glass technique, obtaining pieces of surprising transparency and brilliance like our bowl. Pierre d'Avesn was born in 1901 and initially worked for René Lalique for 10 years. During this period, he designed the famous "Snake" vase and the "Tourbillons" vase, two of Lalique's most expensive collector's items. In 1926 he left René Lalique and created his own designs. From 1930 to 1936 he was a valuable and creative collaborator of the Daum company. He subsequently had his creations produced at the Cristalleries de Saint-Remy. Considered the elite of the last Art Deco glassmakers, he died at the age of 90. There is a legible artist's mark on the bottom of the bowl (see photos).
