Item description

Pair of paintings on canvas with "Human figures" by Eliano Fantuzzi. Signed "FANTUZZI" at the bottom and bearing further wording with extended signature on the back. They come in a white box frame. Without frame they measure 70 x 50 cm. Eliano Fantuzzi (1909-1987), born in Modena but raised and trained artistically in Verona, moved to Paris at a very young age, fascinated first by the Enlightenment and then Expressionist tendencies, and in this city he began to exhibit and build his career. After having served a few years in the French army, he returned to Italy in 1943 but in 1948 he was called by the Emir Ibim Saud to decorate the Saudi palace of Taif, where he remained until 1952, frescoing the reception hall. Having returned permanently to Italy, he exhibited in exhibitions and biennials. Influenced by contact with Expressionism in his Parisian years, Fantuzzi placed a marked emphasis on the expression of emotions and moods in his works. His figures are therefore summary, never completely defined, rather deformed into elongated shapes, the faces anonymous, and placed in solitary and melancholic settings; instead he dominates in his canvases the color in its most marked ranges, usually the cold tones of blues, greens and purples, which create sometimes violent contrasts. Fantuzzi's main themes are the loneliness of the metropolis and the difficulty of communication in interpersonal relationships.
