Item description
Feltri armchair designed by Gaetano Pesce for Cassina in 1987. This iconic industrial armchair is one of the most significant design projects of the 20th century. It is part of the permanent collection of the Moma in New York and the Triennale Design Museum. The structure of the armchair is completely made of felt soaked in a thermosetting resin, applied especially in the seat to give it rigidity and to be able to support the weight of the sitter. The backrest has been left more elastic so that it can be folded and modified at will, but still rigid. The great designer Gaetano Pesce wanted to recreate a kind of primitive environment, thanks to a rough material such as felt and the elasticity of the backrest that allows the user to wrap himself and protect himself with the flaps of the backrest. Thanks to the felt, the armchair decreases the surrounding acoustic impact, giving the user the feeling of being protected in a niche. Gaetano Pesce was one of the greatest designers of our time. He passed away at his home in New York on 4 April 2024. The armchair is an original version of the period and is in excellent condition, although it does show signs of ageing such as the loss of colour on the back, this does not affect its beauty and can be seen in the photos.
