Marino Marini, In composition, etching and aquatint, 1971

Etching and aquatint "In composition" by Marino Marini (Pistoia, 1901 – Viareggio, 1980), 1971. This print is part of an album entitled Selezione II composed of six works, published by Graphis Arte, Livorno and Toninelli Arte Moderna, Milan in 1973. The album has a preface by the German painter and intellectual Bernd Krimmel. The sheet was printed in Rome by Geloch Gjokaj and Moussa Abdayen. We see a horse depicted from behind which seems to be in the act of neighing and turning its muzzle back towards the man who is riding it in the balance. A gray background glaze and the use of etching in short, dense strokes create the figures that almost look like sculptures. Geometric motifs in aquatint in five different colors enliven the composition. Signature and numbering at the bottom in pencil. Specimen no. 78/90. Total edition of 90 copies + 10 artist's proofs. Evidence without aquatint intervention is known. Excellent impression. Excellent state of conservation, wide margins beyond the edge of the copper.
