Item description
Brutalist sculptural dining chair by Edoardo Landi. The Diago chairs were designed by Edoardo Landi in 1973 for Nikol International, Italy. With a wide seat and curved backrest, this chair is extremely comfortable to sit on. With a minimally sculpted arched backrest support, a fluted oval handle and turned seats, this chair represents the design of early postmodernism. Brutalism entered the postmodern era using raw materials, simple silhouettes and geometric shapes. This stemmed from the post-Mid Century era that celebrated grandeur, glamour, geometric shapes and repetitive patterns. This chair was produced in limited quantities for specific showrooms internationally. The chair is made of laminated plywood. The chair is in as good condition as it was found and shows signs of age and use: such as fading, discolouration, rust on the screws, scratches and nicks on the wood. The chair is 47 years old and will continue to be a desirable collector's item, as not many were produced and they are hard to find. Moreover, Edoardo Landi's achievements in furniture design and art give it a significant history and provenance. His artistic work is based on the use of geometric shapes with programmed inclinations or separations through which he achieves changes in the viewer's perception. The artist has developed the phenomenon of retinal fatigue and optical illusions in some of his works, causing a close relationship between the viewer and the work.
