Item description

Set of three coffee tables/poufs/modules Gli Scacchi by Mario Bellini for C&B Italia, 1970s. Playful in character, the Gli Scacchi series is composed of three elements inspired, as the name reveals, by the classic game of the same name, particularly the Queen, Knight and Rook pieces ("Scacchi" is the italian name for "Chess"). Lightweight and easy to move. Just as on a chessboard, Gli Scacchi is based on an idea of life free of constraints. The three elements elaborate and develop the shape of the parallelepiped, and because of their soft polyurethane structures and dimensions, they synchronize perfectly with the iconic Camaleonda seating collection. In the original 1971 version, the Gli Scacchi series represented a remarkable technical innovation with the introduction of self-skinning polyurethane upholstery, a solution previously used only in the automotive industry. In the 2020 reissue, the soft upholstery is leather or Kanu leather with visible stitching. The elegant metal profile at the base emphasizes the geometric shapes in contrast to the overall softness of the object. Mario Bellini (Milan, February 1, 1935) is an Italian fashion designer. He graduated in architecture in 1959 from the Milan Polytechnic, where his professors were Ernesto Nathan Rogers, Gio Ponti and Piero Portaluppi, then dean of the Faculty of Architecture. C&B Italia S.p.A. is an Italian company founded in 1966 in Novedrate, a manufacturer of furniture, furnishing accessories and other household items.
