Item description
Oil painting on panel by Eugenio Gignous depicting a view of Mount Fletschhorn with the Simplon Pass and a flock, late 19th century. Signed. Eugenio Gignous (1850-1906) was an Italian painter known for his contribution to Lombard naturalism. Trained at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, he was influenced by the Milanese Scapigliatura and by his friendship with artists such as Tranquillo Cremona. Specializing in landscapes, Gignous adopted plein air painting techniques, obtaining recognition in national exhibitions. From 1887 he lived in Stresa, painting views of Lake Maggiore and the surrounding mountains. His works reflect an intense chromatic and luministic research, revealing an acute sensitivity for the natural and rural landscape. Size without frame: 48 x 70 cm.
