Item description
This rare pair of bookends from the Italian Art Deco period (circa 1930) is truly exquisite. Two greyhounds in patinated bronze assuming different poses on a base of fine black Italian marble. This type of black marble is very rare. Called Portoro marble, or Portovenere, it is a fine variety of Italian marble from the picturesque Gulf of Poets, in the Ligurian province of La Spezia, and is one of the most beautiful of polychrome marbles. It is characterised by an intense, brilliant black colour with golden veins ranging from pure yellow to honey-coloured. The uniqueness of its appearance makes it a unique marble, irreplaceable as an ornamental material. We recommend that you take a close look at the details of these rare and distinctive bookends in perfect condition. Price negotiable.
