Item description
Pair of high stools mod. K65 by Alvar Aalto for Artek, 1960s (designed in 1935). Good condition with some inevitable signs of time and use (see photos). K65 is a high stool with four legs and back in natural lacquered birch; it has the optimal height for high tables and bar counters. The low back offers just the right amount of back support, and the curved lower element serves as the perfect footrest. Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto (Kuortane, February 3, 1898 - Helsinki, May 11, 1976) was a Finnish architect and designer, one of the most important figures in 20th-century architecture and remembered-along with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Walter Gropius, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Le Corbusier-as masters of the Modern Movement. The name Artek has always evoked a design icon, and it could not be otherwise since the founder, Alvar Aalto, was one of the pioneers of Scandinavian design. Established in 1935 to create and promote furniture designed by the Finnish architect, Artek soon transformed its mission, thanks to the contributions of its three other partners, Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustav Hahl. The founders pursued the intent to produce objects that integrated art and technology, as the name suggests. Pair of high stools mod. K65 by Alvar Aalto for Artek, 1960s (designed in 1935).
