Aldabra giant tortoise, ceramic sculpture, 1970s
SILVER Seller in Milano, Italy
Large ceramic sculpture depicting an Aldabra giant tortoise (Aldabrachelys gigantea), 1970s. This is a tortoise native to the Aldabra Atoll in the Indian Ocean that can reach about 120 cm in length and weigh as much as 250 kg. The work was handmade in ceramic and fired in one piece. This peculiarity, considering the difficulty of making it, makes the object rare and valuable, as it is supposedly a one-of-a-kind piece.
