Item description
Ant chair (mod. 3100) in teak by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen (Denmark), early 1950s. It is a fundamental piece in the history of modern furniture design. Initially conceived in 1952, the Ant chair was innovative for its time, displaying a minimalist aesthetic combined with advanced manufacturing techniques. Arne Jacobsen, an architect and designer known for his innovative approach, created the Ant chair with the intent to achieve both functionality and beauty. The particular shape of the chair, which resembles an ant with its head raised, is characterized by a single piece of die-cast plywood that forms both the seat and the backrest. This organic shape offers exceptional comfort and support, following Jacobsen's principle of designing furniture that adapts to the natural shape of the human body. The most revolutionary feature of the Ant chair lies in its construction: Jacobsen used a new plywood shaping technique, obtaining a light but sturdy structure. The chair rests on a three-legged tubular steel base, which further highlights its minimalist design and ensures stability. The use of three legs, although unconventional, was a deliberate choice by Jacobsen to achieve an elegant and discreet profile. Later versions of the chair were produced with four legs to meet wider market preferences. With its simple but elegant shape, combined with practicality and high quality craftsmanship, the Ant chair is suitable for different environments, from modern dining rooms to offices. Despite the passage of time, the chair offered here remains in perfect original condition with only minimal signs of time. The manufacturer's engraving on the bottom confirms its authenticity. The steel legs have been cleaned and the wood preserved with professional products. Seat height: 43 cm.
