Item description

The Cactus coat stand by Gufram is an original and lively project, ironic and pop. The Cactus Gufram perfectly represents the creative climate that distinguishes the Made in Italy design of the 70s. Icon of international design, designed in 1972 by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello for Gufram, is a decorative element that turns out to be a coat rack. Object of countless, free and often equivocal interpretations, Cactus is the icon of Italian design that has revolutionized the domestic landscape by breaking down the boundaries between indoor and open space. In its first production it was conceived in emerald green (now discontinued edition) and since then it has been cyclically reinterpreted according to the color and style of the moment. In 2007 came the white version (an edition also out of production), in 2010 it was the turn of Red and Black. In 2012, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the birth of the first specimen, Cactus Gufram was presented in a new limited edition Orange and Lime, called Metacactus. In this variant the lime green of the body fades into orange on the tips, as if they had been toasted by the scorching sun of the house of those who have always loved and collected it. Produced in a limited edition of 500 copies per edition, these totems become a clearly pop sign and highly distinctive in any context. Guido Drocco and Franco Mello, known together as the Gugliermetto brothers, are a duo of Italian designers members of the radical movement that deals with chairs and chairs since 1952. Drocco was born in San Benedetto Belbo, in the province of Cuneo, in 1942. Graduated from the Polytechnic of Turin, since 1996 he has taught Architecture and Industrial Design in Turin. Mello is a Genoese designer from 1945 who lives and works in Turin and Spineto Scrivia. The furniture and design objects designed by the duo are still timeless icons: the company Gufram has recently revived the Cacti designed by them in the 70s. Anti-conformist, playful and subversive, Gufram is famous for going beyond the limits of industrial design through Radical Design. Iconic works such as the Pratone chaise longue of the Strum Group, the Cactus coat stand by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello, the Bocca sofa and the Capitello armchair by Studio 65 are considered domestic sculptures capable of combining art and design. Furniture, accessories and irreverent objects with a pop identity are part of an exclusive catalogue always full of novelties.
