Item description

Large antique Japanese vase. Dating from the Late Meiji period, 19th century. Made of copper and brass with polychrome 'Cloisonne' enamel decoration. Cloisonne is a very old technique, dating back as far as ancient Egypt, in which thin wires (usually copper) are soldered or glued to a support plate of the work to be built; subsequently, enamel is poured into the areas revealed by the metal, thus obtaining a sort of mosaic whose tesserae are precisely circumscribed by the metal strips. This technique was used to create these ornaments, with peach blossoms on a turquoise background. Truly excellent condition despite its age. Possible presence of some imperfections.
