Item description

Set of six Plia folding chairs by Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli, 1970s. The Plia chair, designed in 1967, is a truly iconic piece that exemplifies the innovation and functionality of mid-century modern design. At the 1967 Milan Furniture Fair, the chair was presented as “The symbol of a new era centered on plastic”. This unique set features a minimalist design with a sleek chrome-plated steel frame and a clear, slightly yellow plastic seat and back. The choice of materials not only contributes to the modern aesthetics of the chair but also ensures durability and ease of maintenance. Its most notable feature is the three-disc hinge, which allows the chair to fold to a thickness of just five centimeters. This compact design makes the set incredibly versatile and easy to store. The Plia chair was revolutionary, it symbolized modernity and practicality. It has won numerous awards, including the Compasso d'Oro in 1970, and has become part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. The set has been checked by our team: each chair remains in excellent vintage condition with minor signs of use and patina consistent with its age. The steel structures, seats and backrests have been cleaned. There are some stains and cracks in the plastic but they are absolutely minimal for a piece that is almost 60 years old. Furthermore, thanks to the use of high-quality materials, these imperfections do not affect the functionality of the chairs. The folding mechanisms work properly and smoothly. The folded chair is 89 cm high, 46 cm wide and 5 cm deep. Seat height: 48 cm.
