Item description
Chandelier by Pietro Chiesa for Fontana Arte, 1950s. It embodies the pinnacle of mid-century Italian modern lighting design. Chiesa is primarily known for his pioneering work with glass and lighting, boasting clean lines, geometric shapes and a minimalist aesthetic. In this particular piece, Chiesa created a lampshade using two plates of glass of different sizes, surrounding horizontally positioned light bulbs to achieve a unique geometric shape. The smoked glass diffusers are made in slightly different shades: the lower, darker one provides a warmer and less sharp light, allowing the upper part to shine. This design allows the chandelier to beautifully diffuse the light, casting a soft, ambient light that elegantly illuminates the space. Both glass shades are positioned on an equally interestingly designed brass structure that divides into three rods, creating the impression of scattered rays. In addition to the aesthetic qualities, the structure has been designed to be highly practical. The brass rings act as supports for each glass plate and match the brass-finished edges of the lower shade, creating a harmonious look. The addition of rods protruding from the bottom gives the entire piece an extremely distinctive look. Despite its vintage origins, the chandelier remains extremely versatile. Its exquisite craftsmanship and innovative, timeless design are evident even more than sixty years later. We have made sure that the lamp works properly and is not damaged. The glass diffusers are perfectly preserved and the brass has developed a beautiful patina over time, enhancing its vintage charm. The lamp requires three E14 bulbs.
