Gebrüder Thonet, Chair 6009, later B9 also called Corbusier chair', circa 1904. Beech wood, bentwood, plywood, dark stained. This chair became famous when Le Cobusier used it for his ‘Pavillon de l'Esprit Nouveau’ at the ‘Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs’ in Paris in 1925; the chair was also often found in Le Corbusier's later homes and furnishings; colloquially it is therefore often referred to as the ‘Corbusier chair’. It is marked Thonet under the seat. Shown in photo.
