Nendo Design
Founded in Tokyo in 2002 by Japanese designer Oki Sato (Toronto, 1977), the design studio Nendo ("clay", in Japanese) is one of the most productive in the world. In the year of its foundation, Sato completed his master's degree in architecture at the Waseda University in Tokyo and visited Milan during the Salone del Mobile, a journey that marked the beginning of a series of collaborations that would bind Nendo to a number of Italian design brands, including Moroso, Cappellini, Oluce and Bisazza. The studio's collaborations with prestigious international brands also include Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Camper, Baccarat, Puma, Coca-Cola, just to name a few. From the design of objects, furnishings and interiors, to graphics and corporate branding, Nendo is faithful to a design method in which irony and spontaneity (each project is born from Sato's abstract sketches) go hand in hand with the quality of execution. Each of Nendo's creations aspires to provoke an emotional reaction in the user of the object, maintaining the balance between maximum expressiveness and minimum elements: a "lightness" that often leads to the description of his pieces as poetic works.
