Famous

Casino's decor

Mirrored walls, colored marble tops, and felted carpets characterize the look of some of the most famous casinos in the world. But what is behind the creation of these luxurious environments, where time stands still to make way for elegance, audacity, and excess? Let's find it out together.

Each one is characterized by its own particular style, but all the most famous casinos share few decor secrets. Their welcoming, luxurious, and elegant atmosphere make players feel as comfortable as in their own home, or better, they aim to “bring” them straight to their dream home.

The Marina Bay Sands stands apart into Singapore's skyline and is known for its 2300 slot machines and 500 gaming tables. But the structure is intended to provide visitors with every possible entertainment option. On the roof, which stretches horizontally over the 3 towers of the building, you can dive into a 340 meter long swimming pool which offers a sheer view of the city to up to 3900 divers. Gaming rules not only on the green tables but also over the interiors: starting from the optical carpets and culminating in the large gilded columns with no bearing function, everything seems to bring the visitor into a vortex of richness and power.

In South Africa, two hours away from Johannesburg, one can throw the dices at the Sun City: here, the general structure follows the round shapes of the circle: the roulette, is reflected in the large fountain crowned by gazelle heads at the entrance and the rainbow-colored one of the slot machines screens has a counterpart in the large colored glass dome that dominates the large gaming room. Elephants, rhinos, and giraffes can be found at the safari park around the corner where you can also find the Palace of the Lost City, also known as the Palace of Kitsch for its opulent botanical garden full of tropical plants such as jacarandas, baobabs, carnivorous plants, and huge passion fruit.

The casino offering is concentrated in Sin City, Las Vegas, where one can find any kind of entertainment. Here, the competition has pushed interior designers, architects, and landscapers to cross all boundaries, both outdoors and indoors. The fountain dances in front of the Bellagio could compete with the water games installed by King Louis XIV at Versailles, while the impressive mini glass drops pendants at The Chandelier (hence the casino's name) creates fine curtains of light that separate the building’s rooms and floors. A bit playground, a bit art gallery, and a real paradise for players and cocktail bar lovers these casinos are among the most well known in the world.

Italy and its beauties seem to be a common point of inspiration for casinos around the world: the Bellagio gets its name from the small town on Lake Como; the Venetian, in the Macao district of Honk Kong (yes, there is one in Las Vegas too), even reproduces a scale version of famous attractions of La Serenissima such as San Marks's tower and the Rialto Bridge. In short, what casinos decor try to stress is the desire to travel to a new dimension, at least for a moment, within each one’s own mind, and while doing that, taking some gamble!
