With the new year, intOndo browses the world of vintage interior photography! Leading the way are the evocative photographs by American photographer Slim Aarons (1916-2006), which we include in our #A Room of One's Own stories.
Aarons, who was able to tell a part of the society of his time in its daily normality, is known for his evocative and deeply iconic images which portray, as he himself explained, «attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places», which are lately highly sought after by international collectors.
Among our favorite photographs is Cozy (1964), a portrait of interior designer Vincent Fourcade immortalized by Aarons in his New York apartment, with a desk made of Coromandel lacquered screens, a K'ang Hsi porcelain jar and 17th-18th century furnishings from all over the world; and Truman Capote at home in Brooklyn (1958): the writer is surrounded by wallpaper and damask fabrics, curious porcelain cats and Japanese fabrics draped and hung in a very particular way (in the picture).
