Item description

Elegant painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil work on canvas depicting a splendid landscape with grazing animals, of great pictorial quality. We find in the foreground some wonderful sheep and a goat next to the shepherd dog while we see the herdsman in the distance with the rest of the flock. Painting attributable to the German painter Philipp Peter Roos known as Rosa da Tivoli (1657-1706), lacking authenticity. A pupil of Giacinto Brandi, he worked mainly in Italy and bought a house in Tivoli, which earned him his famous nickname. He raised many animals and then painted them in the Roman countryside, with intense, sometimes almost coarse brushstrokes and with a strong contrast between light and shadow. 20th century frame in carved, lacquered and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. Work already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small spots. Overall in good state of conservation. (Painting that is part of a pair, see photo and ask for the price of the matching paintings if still available). Painting light H 73 x W 59 cm.
