Item description
Italian painting from the first half of the 19th century. Oil on panel work of notable pictorial quality depicting a mythological scene of great pleasure. We find the iconographic prototype of the Chariot of Dawn that Guido Reni frescoed in 1614 for the ceiling of the central hall of the Casino adjacent to the Palazzo Pallavicini-Rospigliosi, commissioned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese. Apollo drives the golden chariot of the sun and brings the light of the new day to earth. The Aurora precedes the race of the sun and chases away the darkness of the night while a winged cherub, the twilight, raises a torch. Young girls, the Hours, dance around the sun in a triumph of light with a gold background. Spectacular contemporary frame in wood and gilded plaster, with some defects (see photo). Work with small drops of color, overall in good state of conservation. Painting part of a pair, see photo and ask for the price of the matching paintings if still available. Light painting H 35 x W 78 cm.
