Item description
Venetian school of the second half of the 18th century. Oil work on canvas depicting an interior with figures attributable to a follower of Pietro Longhi (1702-1785), of notable pictorial quality. We find four characters in this very theatrical genre scene full of irony. The composition revolves around a man who chases a woman with a pole, who with a surprised expression raises her hands to the sky. Two other characters on the right observe what happened in amazement. The gestures suggest that the scene could represent a costume comedy or a sort of performance game. Elegant 19th century frame in carved and gilded wood, with some gilding losses (see photo). Work already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small spots. Overall in excellent state of conservation. Painting light H 57 x W 44 cm.
