Item description
This Panton chair was manufactured by Verner Panton for Herman Miller in 1971 and is made of S-shaped plastic. Panton designed the first ever chair consisting of a single element, formed from plastic, available in different colors. The S chair became Panton's best-known and most widely produced design. He created innovative and futuristic designs using numerous materials (especially plastics) and vivid colours. His style was very much rooted in the 1960s, but regained its popularity at the end of the 20th century. Pantone contributed to the development of elegant new styles reflecting the "space age" of the 1960s, which became known as Pop Art. Today, chairs are part of the permanent collections of some of the world's most famous museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Design Museum in London, the German Historical Museum in Berlin and the Danish Museum of Art and Design in Copenhagen. The chair comes from the third production version, which was launched in the early 1970s and used coloured material in the mass. They are preserved in their original condition, without damage, there are minor scratches and abrasions.
