Item description
Large Flemish painting from the first half of the 17th century. Oil work on canvas depicting the allegory of love, of notable pictorial quality. Painting attributable to the Dutch painter Cornelis Van Haarlem (1562-1638), lacking authenticity. Among the best-known exponents of Dutch mannerism, he was influenced by the works of Bartholomeus Spranger and painted above all mythological and biblical episodes and allegories. Just like in this case as we see the allegory of love represented, where a splendid bare-breasted girl is contested between a handsome young man and an elderly man who tries to win her over by offering his riches. To underline the refinement of the color palette and the executive quality in the creation of the garments, rich in precious details and lace. Spectacular 20th century frame in carved, lacquered and gilded wood, beautifully decorated. Work already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and color recovery in small spots. Overall in good state of conservation. Light painting H 74 x W 99 cm.
