Item description
Plia chairs by Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli Five Plia chairs model Canè, rare version of the famous chair by Anonima Castelli. The Plia chair was presented in its best-known version, with the polypropylene seat, at the 1967 Milan Furniture Fair. Canè is a version that features the iconic steel frame with three-disc pins and the seat in wood and Vienna straw also known as Canetè. Designed by Giancarlo Piretti, a designer who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna in Design. Still active, during his career Piretti was awarded numerous national and international awards. Produced by Anonima Castelli, a company founded in Bologna in 1877 as Ebanisteria Castelli, a small workshop directed by Ettore Castelli. Castelli became a supplier to some public bodies at the beginning of the 20th century, thus managing to expand with two factories. In 1939 the new company Anonima Castelli spa was established which expanded its factories, even creating a division specialized in seating, the DSC where Piretti designed Plia. The manufacturing label is present on the chairs. The chairs are in excellent state of conservation, they have no structural defects and the straw is in excellent conservative conditions. They show slight and obvious signs of aging.
