Item description

This vintage desk-table from the 1920s is made of mahogany wood by Vienna-based Jacob & Josef Kohn in the style of designer Josef Hoffmann. Its dimensions are H 78cm, length 80 cm.and depth 50 cm.It has an elegant and refined silhouette with a rectangular top, featuring clean and precise lines in keeping with the sober and geometric style of the period. The legs are tall and slender, and decorated with fine, precise threading both at the top and downward a few inches from the floor. These decorative details show Hoffmann's attention to craftsmanship and typical minimalist ornamental taste. Mahogany wood, with its warm, deep color, adds a sense of luxury and durability. Under the top can be seen the label attesting to the work of J & J Kohn and a handcrafted engraving. Jacob & Josef Kohn, also known as J. & J. Kohn, were Austrian furniture manufacturers and interior designers based in Vienna. Jacob Kohn (1791-1866), together with his son Josef Kohn (1814-1884), founded the company in 1849. Later, Kohn would become a major furniture manufacturer in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, emerging as one of Gebrüder Thonet's main competitors. Kohn collaborated with artists from the Wiener Werkstätte and with Josef Hoffmann in the design of many pieces.
