Item description
Etling's opalescent glass bowl features a fine decoration of leaves and raspberries on the base and lid. The opalescence of the glass is due to the different refractive indices between glass and heterogeneous particles. It could be a precious bonbon bowl. Made at the beginning of the 20th century, Edmond Laurent Etling was a great entrepreneur, trader, and promoter of the protagonists of modern French art of that period in the city of Paris, opening an important shop in Rue de Paradis no. 29 to which he gave his name. Renowned artists and architects, exponents of deco art, had the opportunity to create, promote and sell their works. In Etling's shop you could therefore find exclusive unique pieces of art in bronze, ceramics or glass. His name continued in art history even after his death in a concentration camp because of his Jewish origin.
