Item description
These rare and very elegant chairs were made in Italy in the mid-20th century. The style of Chiavari chairs comes from the small Italian town called Chiavari, near Genoa. It was there, at the beginning of the 19th century, that the Italian furniture maker Giuseppe Gateano Descalzi invented and created, first in wood, this type of chair, later called chiavariana. The frame of the chairs is in beautiful Florentine style, machined brass and the seat and back are in original Italian silk satin with a floral pattern. They are in a delightful vintage condition and can remain so or be refurbished for a more modern-elegant look, perhaps with bright velvet seats. The chairs come with a matching mirror (also for sale) from the villa of an elegant old Italian lady leaving near Milan who wanted to redecorate her entrance. They are looking for a new home, ready to delight with their grace!
