Item description

A graceful and elegant cast bronze statuette with a marble base, depicting a young dancer performing a difficult dance number with harmony and plasticity, lightly holding a bouquet of flowers. She is a young dancer with Art Nouveau clothing, hairstyle and face, very well represented with a slender body full of elegant and composed grace. The excellent statuary bronze casting (copper, tin combined with hardening materials), was then hand finished in all details. Two types of marble were used for the base: Nero Marquinia, a high-quality, fine-grained stone material with an intense black colour, extracted from the region of Markina, Basque Country in northern Spain, is one of the most famous and appreciated natural stones in the world. Marquinia is widely used for fine ornamental work. The Fior di Pesco Apuano marble extracted from the mountains above Massa-Carrara (Italy) was used for the underlying part and is one of the most valuable marbles in the world. Its unmistakable shades ranging from pink to grey and white, it was first used by the Romans to make their rooms and palaces shine, then by the Medici family to embellish the rich Renaissance Florence. The statuette was made in Art Noveau style between 1920 and 1922 with a beautiful bronze statuary casting in a small workshop in Val D'Osne (Haute Marne, France). The statuette is in good condition, but the marble bases have some scratches.
