Item description

Extraordinary work from the circle of Andrea Scacciati (Florence 1642-1704). The painting offered at auction clearly shows strong stylistic similarities with the style of Maestro Andrea Scacciati, such as the light green background and the stone pedestal on which the important vase rests, which is often found in the most important paintings by the maestro. The way of arranging the flowers and making the vase are also distinctive features of Scacciati's painting. Andrea Scacciati's delicate and refined paintings made him one of the most successful still life painters at the court of the Medici Grand Dukes. Initially, he trained as a figure painter. He learned first from Mario Balassi and then from Lorenzo Lippi, who encouraged him to conscientiously study the colours and qualities of flowers. As his career flourished towards the end of the century, and in the face of competition from other still life artists such as Bartolomeo Bimbi (1648-1729). Scacciati increased the lush quality of his paintings. He specialised in painting rich bouquets of flowers, fruit and animals from life, infusing his paintings with an almost scientific quality of observation. Work in a good state of preservation, re-tinted with some colour fading at lower left, and some scattered very minor ones. Plastering and reversible pictorial restoration. The work is set in an important antique wooden frame, in the form of a "Tuscan box" lacquered in imitation marble and gilded. Canvas measurements: 86 X 68.5 cm.
