Born in 1935 into a family of celebrated glassmakers from the venetian island of Murano, Carlo Nason is no doubt one of the most influential glass designers of the twentieth century. Particularly known for the smooth shapes he creates out of white opaline glass, most of his prolific production is represented by floor lamps.
The present light is indeed a very rare and well preserved floor lamp, designed in the 1970s for Mazzega. Realized in three superimposed elements in rounded white opaline glass, with finishing details in chromed metal, the lamp produces a nice diffuse light and is an extremely refined sculptural object in its own right.
The peculiar wavy shape found on this particular piece is not uncommon in Nason's designs from the 1970s; however, it is generally paired to spherical/oval elements, making this lamp extremely rare and intriguing. It is probably one of only a handful produced in this exact configuration and the only one currently available on the market.
Preserved in very good conditions, the lamp even has the original switch and cables which operate perfectly. A single click of the switch will light up the two lower bulbs, while the second click powers the remaining light.
The glass shows no dents nor cracks and has an even colour throughout. The metal elements present some expectable patina and fading due to the age.
The lamp is preserved in original condition and is fully functional.
