Item description
Rare antique sculpture in white Carrara marble. Great artistic quality, unsigned. This rare sculpture can be dated to around the mid-16th century, Renaissance period. The two figures are very simple, linear, and sketched as expected during this historical period. Mary's dress is stiff and devoid of movement. The faces are barely visible. Most likely this sculpture was made to be placed in a niche in the wall, thus visible only frontally. Probably some elements have been lost; a hole in Mary's hand can be seen, which originally may have had a cross, and on her head may have been a crown. The sculpture shows signs of passage of time in the patina of the marble. However, we recommend that you look closely in detail at all the attached photos. MEASUREMENTS IN CM.
