Item description

Armchair model 930, design by Vico Magistretti, produced by Cassina and made for the Golf Club-House in Carimate in 1963. Brown beechwood frame with white bouclè seat and back. Production label under the frame. Cassina Spa is an Italian company operating in the contemporary furniture sector, founded in 1927 in Meda by Cesare and Umberto Cassina. The main activity is woodworking, in-house, for the production of coffee tables. Over the years the company expanded, especially in the post-war period, also thanks to collaborations with external architects who contributed their experience and research. In the 1950s Cassina moved from handcrafted production to serial production, adopting the logic of industrial design. This change was also prompted by the commissioning of furniture for the interiors of large cruise ships. During this period some of the company's best known products took shape: the 646 chair and the 699 chair, known as the 'Superleggera', both designed by Gio Ponti. In 1963, Vico Magistretti joined the company's design team, creating the Carimate armchair. Ludovico 'Vico' Magistretti (Milan, 6 October 1920 - Milan, 19 September 2006) was one of Italy's most important designers, architects and urban planners. His clean, essential design characterised and inspired the world of home, office and business furniture creation throughout the latter part of the 20th century.
