Item description

A Dala Horse (Swedish: Dalahäst) is a traditional wooden figurine of a horse, originating from the Swedish province of Dalarna. In the past the Dala horse was mainly used as a toy for children, but nowadays it has become a symbol of Dalarna and Sweden in general. It was in the small huts deep in the forests, during the long winter nights in front of the fireplace fire, that the forerunners of the Dala horse were born. Using simple tools, usually just a knife, carvers created toys for their children. It is natural that many of these toys were horses, since the horse in those days was a trusted friend and a worker capable of hauling large loads of wood from the forests during the winter months, while in the summer it could be equally useful in the fields Horses in a good state of conservation dimensions 1: 14 cm height 12 cm length 4 cm width 2: 11 cm height 9.5 cm length 3 cm width 3: 8 cm height 7 cm length 2 cm width
