Item description
It is one of the icons of Italian design. It is exhibited in the world's most important museums including: Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum. Sapper won the Compasso d'Oro in 1979 with this design. Despite being designed in the 1970s, Tizio is still considered a symbol of quality, functionality and elegance of 'Made in Italy'. The result of a friendship that became a professional collaboration between Sapper and Gismondi, it stems from the latter's desire to design a design lamp that had a wide range of movement and, despite this characteristic, was not bulky. The lamp is made of metal finished with a very light nylon coating reinforced with glass fibre and consists of two pairs of parallel arms that allow a wide range of positions. The stability of these positions is determined by steel counterweights fixed to the ends of the pairs of arms. As far as the lighting is concerned, Tizio is equipped with a 12-volt halogen lamp, powered by a direct current passing through the metal arms. This voltage creates no danger of electrocution in the event of contact with the arms.
