Item description

Hand-painted ceramic sculpture of a fawn by Tarcisio Tosin for La Freccia Vicenza, 1930s.Born in Cles in 1904, Tarcisio Tosin was trained at the Art Institute of Nove as a pupil of Roberto Rosati. After working with his father Marco, a ceramist at the 'Antonibon' factory in Nove di Bassano and a brief apprenticeship at the small 'Taddei' factory, he worked at various local factories. In 1914, the family moved to Verona where Tarcisio completed his studies at the local School of Art and found work, starting in 1918, at the 'Cassandrini' ceramics factory, run by his father. Here he met Alessandro Zarpellon and his brothers Giuseppe and Giovanni Pizzolotto. In 1926, he was entrusted with the position of director of the 'Borromeo' factory in Isola Bella on Lake Maggiore. The manufacture's production, in the years of Tosin's management, bore the mark, painted in black, of a princely crown with the superimposed words 'Isola bella' underneath. In 1928, Tosin moved to Vicenza, where he took over the management of the 'Fratelli Brotto' ceramic factory, which he took over in 1932, naming it 'La Freccia'. The new trademark is represented by an arrow, drawn vertically, on the sides of which appear the initials FS imposed by a commercial agreement from the dealer Faone Scardin. In the same years, he also dedicated himself to teaching as a teacher of applied ceramics at the Scuola d'Arti e Mestieri in Vicenza. His flair and imagination led him, in the 1930s, to produce ceramics with a humorous and popular flavour in which the technical and stylistic skills of the figures and the taste of a singular and cheerful palette stand out. He also produced some interesting futurist ceramics. In 1946, he was entrusted with the setting up of the First Trade Fair in Vicenza. From 1950, as President of the Artisans' Association of Vicenza, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Vicenza Trade Fair Authority. Tarcisio Tosin worked until 1985 and died in Vicenza in 1999. H 19 cm, W 28 x 15 cm. The piece is in excellent condition, as can be seen from the attached photos.
