Item description

Small and graceful vase with a simple and linear shape in colored opaline glass made between 1970 and 1975. It was blown in a single piece without joints, then modeled with skill by skilled craftsmen in the Murano artisan furnace owned by Carlo Moretti. The most difficult and particular operation is to leave the opaline white inside and create the outside with decorations of another colour: to do this, metal oxides are added to obtain the different colors when the outline of the opal white vase has already come out of the kiln; at the precise moment in which the oxides begin to melt and mix with the white, the craftsman begins the blowing and modeling of the vase, quickly and rapidly, so that the color is distributed only on the surface of the object without penetrating it, as if they were brushstrokes. Once this is finished, the vase is put back in the oven for a very short time and then it is quickly cooled; an operation that not everyone is able to do, in fact it is only delegated to master glassmakers. The company was founded by Carlo Moretti with his brother Giovanni in 1958 in Murano. Here the two materialize the infinite forms of glass in refined design objects; ahead of their time, they always innovate and begin to contaminate glass with the power of colour. Over time, the two brothers increasingly infringed their roles in the company: Carlo mainly deals with design and production, while Giovanni with communication and market strategies. They have been able to reinvent the design of Murano glass, foreseeing changes in taste over time and guiding them through the needs of the market, renewing production processes that have become cumbersome and continuously imagining communication strategies aimed at the intelligent internationalization of the island's production. Carlo Moretti said: "Only in appearance does the world of glass convey an idea of great flexibility because it never stands still, it moves and expands, but then, if you get to know it well, it has great limits. That's why one enters the factory with an idea but he comes up with another one. And this is why Moretti was born as an art factory, where the skill of the master and the production processes count a lot. Glass is rebellious, it cannot be tamed, it is a material in continuous transformation, it has its rules, must be supported at all stages of the process". What may seem like small defects inside or outside the glass (bubbles, lumps, streaks, etc.) are instead proof of the craftsmanship behind the object.
