Item description

This Panton chair was produced by Verner Panton for Herman Miller in 1971 and is made of plastic in the shape of an S. Panton designed the first ever chair consisting of a single element, made of plastic, available in different colours. The S chair has become Panton's best known and most produced design. He created innovative and futuristic designs using numerous materials (mainly plastic) and bright colours. His style was well established in the 1960s, but made a comeback at the end of the 20th century. Panton contributed to the development of new, elegant styles that reflected the 'space age' of the 1960s, which became known as Pop Art. Today, the chairs are part of the permanent collections of some of the world's most famous museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Design Museum in London, the German Historical Museum in Berlin and the Danish Museum of Art and Design in Copenhagen. The chair comes from the third production version, launched in the early 1970s, which used coloured materials in the mass. They are preserved in their original condition, without damage; minor scratches and abrasions are present.
