Item description

Fiandra modular sofa by Vico Magistretti for Cassina, 1970s. The configuration of the sofa is modular and therefore the actual measurements depend on the desired composition. Fiandra is a design by Vico Magistretti put into production by Cassina in 1975, seating elements with simple lines and whose name evokes the "flat countryside", its solid companies and its precious fabrics, transferring the idea of solidity in the comfort of the seats and the preciousness in the variety of the covers ranging from classic canvas to leather, wool and velvet. The armchair, like the sofas, is composed of modular elements which, fixed together by means of a metal bracket screwed under the base, make up linear and angular configurations. The basic elements, armchairs with or without armrests (right or left) are available in two widths, while only the armchair with two armrests and the matching ottoman cannot be attached to the other elements. The upholstery of the feather cushions, fixed with zips, is removable. Cassina Spa is an Italian company operating in the contemporary furniture sector, founded in 1927 in Meda by Cesare and Umberto Cassina. In the 1950s Cassina switched from handcrafted to serial production, adopting the logic of industrial design. This change was also prompted by the commissioning of furniture for the interiors of large cruise ships. During this period some of the company's best known products took shape: the 646 chair and the 699 chair, known as the 'Superleggera', both designed by Gio Ponti. In 1963, Vico Magistretti joined the company's design team, creating the Carimate armchair. Ludovico 'Vico' Magistretti (Milan, 6 October 1920 - Milan, 19 September 2006) was one of Italy's most important designers, architects and urban planners. His clean, essential design characterised and inspired the world of home, office and business furniture creation throughout the latter part of the 20th century.
