Item description

French vase in yellow crystal; the beautiful and decisive grinding was carried out on the whole body of the vase along its circumference from the edge to the base; a very high quality and very thick lead crystal has been used to create a deeper grinding than normal which allows the light to be reflected in a much brighter and more luminous way; for this reason also the geometry of the grinding has been specially studied and performed. The coloring of the crystal affects the entire glass mass and was obtained by adding a mixture of sulfur and cadmium sulphide during casting to ensure that the color was then uniform; this operation was done with great care and attention to the balance of the components, in order to give the vase, not an intense yellow but this delicate, light, almost ethereal yellow. The vase is made of crystal with a percentage of over 30% lead oxide (a material developed in England by George Ravenscroft in the second half of the 17th century), which is very bright and transparent. The high lead content, which replaces the calcium present in ordinary glass, gives the crystal considerable hardness, exceptional transparency and a high refractive index. The vase was masterfully executed in the Art Deco style in France between 1930 and 1935, in the Nancy district, famous for the high concentration of factories and craftsmen specialized in crystal processing (Daum, Baccarat, Saint Louis, etc.) . The high refractive index of the vase has been enhanced by the Master Craftsmen in the manufacturing, following the ancient and complex glass manufacturing techniques scrupulously performed by hand; it was first cut and lathe ground with an emery wheel continuously fed by a jet of abrasive sand and water, then repolished with a very fine grit sandstone wheel also fed with water, then polished through a wet cork bark wheel with a mixture of water and pumice, this to make the surface more transparent, and finally the polishing phase which was obtained with a felt wheel wet with a mixture of water, iron oxide and cerium oxide. Our vase, with its delightful and graceful shape, tells us these wonderful stories, it is an object with a unique identity, full of elegance and refinement, which leaves us surprised by the harmony of the shape and workmanship that blend into a balanced aesthetic balance. The vase is in very good condition, only a light sanding was done on the edge to repair a small chip, but the repair is almost invisible (see photos). Measures diameter 22cm, height 25cm. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, polystyrene, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
