Canvas depicting the Preaching of St. Peter, 20th century
SILVER Seller in Milano, Italia
Late 19th century framed wooden canvas. The reference narration is the one found in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2, 14-42) in which Saint Peter begins to preach to the crowd after Pentecost, urging the people to be baptized. In this scene, as in the Discourse, Peter is depicted alone, while in the text of the Acts he was in the company of the other apostles: this choice strongly underlines his primacy and his personification with the whole Church. This work is of such rarity that no copies exist.
