Item description

Chelsea extendable table by Vittorio Introini for Saporiti, 1960s. Made entirely of walnut with square top and pyramidal base; metal details. The top can be opened and extended from 100 cm to 200 cm. Vittorio Introini is an Italian designer and artist born in 1935. He began his activity as a designer in the 1960s. The charge of innovation and change in his architectural and design works comes from his rich personal background and the breadth of cultural and architectural references; his language combines several elements including individual creativity, subjectivity of compositional systems and knowledge of new materials. Introini's design activity begins at the waning of the Modern Movement due to the ideological contradictions of its multiple components. In his works the role of internationalism and anti-historicism are crucial. The decisive renewal takes place with the contribution of Ernesto N. Rogers, which allows for an awareness of the individuality of cultures and places in antithesis to the aforementioned Movements in advance of international conservative criticism. The concept of "context" opens new analytical horizons progressively extended from urban morphology and semiology to design method. Introini's style, in tune with Russian-derived Neo-rationalism, can be traced to the following principles: typology, syntax, language.
