6 Cesca B32 armchairs by Marcel Breuer for Stendig Furniture Co., 1970s

Group of six Cesca B32 armchairs by Marcel Breuer for Stendig Furniture Co. N.Y., 1970s (designed in 1928). Supporting structure made of continuous chrome-plated Mannesmann steel tubing, seat and backrest consisting of black beech wood framework and Vienna straw. At that time under a trade agreement between Stendig Furniture Co. and Kiga spa, this model armchair was manufactured in Italy and imported for the U.S. market. The steel structure, chrome plating and wooden parts are perfect as well as the Vienna straw, still well stretched. They show only slight normal discoloration due to time. No rips or holes. Only on the armrests is the black finish slightly worn from use. Charles W. Stendig, born 1924, was the founder of Stendig, Inc. furniture in New York. The company, active between 1955 and 1976, imported a unique selection of modern European furniture to the United States, focusing on iconic pieces of furniture excellence, artifacts created by the greatest designers of the 20th century. Stendig was among the pioneers of the American modern movement, whose operational headquarters was in SHOW ROOM 410 EAST 62nd ST. NEW YORK, N.Y. 10021. Together with his consort Eleanore and their competent staff they furnished the most famous residences and offices throughout America between 1960 and 1976.
