Item description
Emigrant travel trunk, 1910s. Unknown provenance. Poplar structure with wrought-iron upholstery and decoration elements, exterior hardwood backings, probably oak. Designed for ship travel and extreme transport conditions, it is very solid and durable. The appearance is neat with painted floral decorations on the sides and lid. It can be closed with two side hooks and a central lock with key. Completely original in all its parts except for a leather side handle, replaced because it was missing, and the key, also lost and replaced with a key of the same age and style. It has inscriptions made by the owner regarding the journey he made from the port of Salerno, to the port of Naples, to the United States of America, probably New York. The inside is covered with paper; that of the lid is original, that of the bottom, being largely missing, was removed and the wooden surface was painted and protected. Thus, an attempt was made to keep everything as much as possible in its original state and interventions were made only to preserve it as best as possible.
