Item description
Green ceramic vase by Gio Ponti for Richard Ginori, 1930s-40s. Characterized by an elegant and refined flared shape that makes it a perfect decorative element. Imprinted trademark under the base. The history of the Ginori company begins in Doccia, a stone's throw from Florence, when in 1735 Marquis Carlo Andrea Ginori starts a porcelain factory destined to become a worldwide style icon. The 18th century is a key century for the development of porcelain in Europe: in fact, the first manufactures are born in this period, fueled by new international styles and trends. In stately homes, palaces and courtyards, the precious porcelain of the Doccia Manufactory is synonymous with elegance and refinement. The transition from the 18th century to the 19th century, from the century of reason to the one of feeling, marks a new chapter in the development of artistic taste and porcelain manufacture. From 1806 the direction of the factory passes to Leopoldo Carlo Ginori Lisci, who initiates a process of profound renewal. From 1923 to 1933 the Manifattura's artistic direction is entrusted to Gio Ponti; he is responsible for introducing highly innovative elements with sensitivity and respect for the taste for antiquity and oriental culture. The Manifattura is further renewed by relying on the experience of the greatest Italian designers of the time: Franco Albini, Franca Helg, Antonio Piva, Sergio Asti, Achille Castiglioni, Gabriele Devecchi, Candido Fior, Gianfranco Frattini, Angelo Mangiarotti, Enzo Mari, and Aldo Rossi. In 1986 the factory expands and the Società Ceramica Richard Ginori is born. The tradition of master craftsmen meets new technologies and creations are perfected through the use of new patents.
