Elephant sculpture by Frank Meisler, 2000s. Meisler (1925-2018) was a Polish artist who lived most of his life in Israel. He has received numerous awards; the Czech Academy of Art awarded him the "Franz Kafka Gold Medal" in 1999. In 2002 he was named an Honorary Academician by both the Russian Academy of Arts and the Ukrainian Academy of Arts . Cross of the Order of Merit in 2012 in recognition of his services to Jewish-German and German-Israeli relations. He was awarded the honorary Freedom of the City of London Award. The sculpture depicts an elephant made with great skill and resemblance to life. The animal is made of a metal alloy with silver and gilded parts. The head and ears are jointed and can be moved and positioned as desired. The base, which is removable, is made of black granite. This elephant is part of a numbered series, of which it is specimen No. 121 out of 980. It has the author's signature on the right ear.
