Item description
Meissen Blue Onion Dish. Square plate made by the Meissen manufactory with Blue Onion decoration. This refined plate, which can serve as a table centrepiece or object holder, is made with an openwork basket motif on the rim typical of display plates. Inspired by Chinese porcelain, the Meissen decorators created a similar motif that was nicknamed Blue Onion and began to be produced from 1740. Meissen Porcelain or also 'Dresden Porcelain' was one of the earliest European examples of porcelain production. Developed from 1708 by Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus and his helper Johann Friedrich Böttger, who was responsible for introducing the pieces to the market. The plate is in perfect condition as can be seen from the photos. The mark on the back allows us to place it in a time span from 1934 to 1972.
