Napoleon III Bonheur du Jour desk with semi-precious stones, late 19th century





















Napoleon III Bonheur du Jour ladies desk made in France at the end of the 19th century (circa 1880). Doors decorated with semi-precious stones. Upper part with two doors decorated with fruit and flower vases in onyx, marble, glass and other stones. Brass inlays. Opening onto an inside shelf. Underneath two small drawers. Base with leather-lined writing top with gilt edge above a long drawer with frieze. Four rectangular legs tapered and joined in the lower section by a serpentine cross stretcher centered by a small bronze vase. Materials: brass, bronze, ebonized and gilded wood, semi-precious stones. A similar Bonheur du Jour was sold at Christie's London South Kensington in September 2014 (lot 5303).
