Item description
The collaboration between designer-glassmaker Carlo Nason and the Mazzega Murano glassworks is probably the most prolific and celebrated in the history of glassmaking. The result of this relationship, carried on for over two decades, are mainly lamps of all kinds: chandeliers, table lamps, wall lamps and floor lamps. Of the various series designed by Nason, the 'Catena' is one of the best known. Their name, meaning chain, refers to the particular shape of the glasses, which resemble the intertwined rings of a chain. Extremely sought-after and very difficult to find in good condition due to their fragility, these lamps now command high premiums at auctions and design fairs all over the world. The present specimen is preserved in original condition. It shows slight and predictable signs of wear, with a light, uniform and pleasing patina of the chrome coating. The six glasses show no cracks or dents and are still shiny. It is in working condition.
